Japanese culture to the world

彼女にバレずに指輪のサイズを測る方法

1. Ask the store clerk to check and then ask later

First, while you're eating dinner together on a date, casually say something like, "I'd like to see what it looks like with your ring on," and go to a jewelry store and have her try on a ring that you think she'll like. Repeat this process until you find the right ring size. Later, secretly ask the store clerk what size the ring was. Then, buy an engagement ring that size and surprise her.

2. Ask a female friend

The best way to find out is to ask one of her close female friends to find out her ring size.
Tell your friend that you want to surprise her with a ring, and ask her to go look at rings together as a woman. Ask her to casually find out her design preferences by asking, "My size is 9, what about you?" or "I like this kind of ring, what about you?"

3. Measure while she sleeps

While she's sleeping, wrap the string around her ring finger, tie it tightly, and then take it to a jewelry store. Do it discreetly so as not to wake her up. This is the best way to prepare without anyone knowing. When you go to the jewelry store, be sure to show the string to the staff and ask for their advice. They'll be able to prepare something that fits perfectly, rather than just trying to find the right size for you as an amateur.

4. Measure with a toy ring

For example, why not go to a general store and ask her to try on a toy ring? It could be something around 500 yen, so have her try it on, and if she likes it, give it to her as a gift. Then, find out her ring size, and surprise her with the real ring later.

5. Ask your fortune teller

This is a way to find out using fortune telling that women seem to like. You can say things like, "People whose index finger is almost the same size as their middle finger are good at sports," or "If the thickness is between size 9 and 11, you're likely to meet a loyal boyfriend." Someone with a good sense might notice, but many people won't.
The key is to start off the conversation in a fun and energetic way, like a game, and then quickly switch to another topic by saying, "Here's another thing." If you switch to a more impactful or interesting topic, there's a good chance they'll forget about your finger size. If you keep telling them your finger size, there's a good chance they'll find out.
