Description
This is a single hairpin that expresses the appearance of blowing cotton in a three-dimensional form. The fluffy cotton is decorated with pearl beads and the whole piece is finished in silver for an elegant look.
At the tip of the shaft, a deformed cotton flower has been incorporated into the ornamental hairpin. A silver closure (utena) that matches the color of the shaft adds an accent, wrapping the cotton. The fluffy cotton flower gives a sense of warmth to the hairpin, which is made of inorganic metal and beads. At the bottom, pearl beads are adorned to resemble falling cotton balls. The different shines of the silver shaft and the soft pearl beads catch the light and sparkle brilliantly.
Designer's thoughts
This hairpin is based on the motif of cottonseed, also known as cotton bolls because they look like blooming white flowers. The design is kept to a minimum to create a simple look that captures the clean, elegant appearance that is characteristic of cotton. The fluffy cotton bolls are depicted with pearls of various sizes, wrapped in a calyx. Because of their unique characteristics, cotton bolls are associated with flower meanings such as "envelop me" and "excellence." With these flower meanings and a simple design suitable for any age or occasion, this hairpin makes a perfect gift.
