Description
This hairpin is based on the motif of a single-pronged vajra, one of the ritual implements known as a vajra in Sanskrit. The intricate decoration of this single-pronged hairpin, reminiscent of an esoteric Buddhist ritual implement, gives it a mystical feel.
The simple yet stately form of the dokkou vajra has been sculpted into a hairpin. Just like the actual dokkou vajra, the tip of the shaft is decorated with the same ornamentation as the decorative part, and even parts that are hidden when worn have been carefully sculpted. The delicate decorative parts are finished with a smoked finish to create a three-dimensional effect. Despite the highly distinctive motif, it has a clean impression. The voluminous navy blue tassel adds an oriental feel. The tassel can be removed, allowing it to be used as a simpler single hairpin.
The stem is made of durable and easy-to-handle brass, so even those with thick hair can easily style it all together with just one piece. It's a hairpin that can be worn in any season.
Designer's thoughts
At first glance, it appears to be a dazzling weapon, but its golden brilliance is a design based on the esoteric Buddhist ritual implements held by statues of Kukai and Kongorikishi. The vajra symbolizes the Buddhist teachings that eradicate worldly desires and the bodhicitta, or the desire for enlightenment. Its shape and symmetry have been utilized to create this hairpin. Wearing the vajra, which is said to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune, as a hairpin is imbued with the wish that happiness will befall you. It is recommended for those seeking self-improvement and personal growth, and also as a talisman to ward off evil.
