作り帯で着る女性の浴衣着付け

As the number of hot days increases, more and more people are wearing cool clothing when walking around town. When June arrives and you visit a bookstore, you'll find that there are more and more magazines with special features on fireworks festivals, and you can't help but reach for one.
Are there any of you who want to wear a yukata to a fireworks festival, but are worried about not being able to put it on by yourself, not being able to tie the obi, or worrying about it coming undone? This year, to fully enjoy the summer in a yukata, we'd like to introduce how to put on a yukata in no time with a pre-tied obi!

What is a "pre-tied obi"?

Also known as "attached obi," this is an obi that has been tailored so that it can be worn with a kimono or yukata without the need to tie it yourself. This obi is recommended for those who are new to kimono or yukata, who always take a long time to tie their obi, who are worried about the obi coming undone when wearing Japanese clothing with small children, or who want to enjoy Japanese clothing more casually. Generally, the part that wraps around the torso and the part that is tied are separate, and it is very easy to put on - just insert it into the part that wraps around the torso! It saves time, is safe even for those who are clumsy, and maintains a beautiful shape - these three points alone make it a very attractive obi.

What to prepare when wearing a yukata

  • Yukata slip
  • Japanese underwear
  • Datejime
  • Corin Belt
  • Waist cord

Yukata were originally meant to be worn on bare skin after a bath, but nowadays they are often worn as fashionable clothing to enjoy the summer, so we recommend bringing your own underwear. You can also use everyday camisoles or slips instead. A sports bra can also be used as Japanese underwear. Be careful, as everyday bras will emphasize your bust and sit on top of the obi, giving you a homely look.

Easy Yukata Dressing

  1. First, get your hair and makeup done before putting on your yukata. Once your hair and makeup are done, put on your yukata slip. If necessary, wrap a towel around your waist to adjust the fit.
  2. The key is to put your arms through the yukata and put it on so that the back seam passes through the center of your back.
  3. Hold the bottom of the shirt about 20cm from the collar with both hands and lift it up gently. Make sure the hem is at ankle height. It should not be too long or too short.
  4. Decide the position of the right hand side, and then adjust the left hand side so that it is 3-4 cm higher than the right hand side, and tie the waist cord tightly. Make sure the yukata is firmly fastened so that your lower body looks beautiful.
  5. Once the waist cord is tied, you can adjust the hem. Insert your hands through the underarm openings and smooth out any wrinkles in the front and back.
  6. Attach the collar belt to prevent the collar from becoming untidy. Insert it through the underside opening and fasten the edge of the collar, then turn it from the back to the front and fasten the other side of the collar to secure it firmly.
  7. Decide the position of the collar. A good rule of thumb is to use the width of one fist. Remove the collar and pull it down gently. Be careful not to pull it too tight, as it will look messy.
  8. Wrap the datejime around the area where you will attach the obi. It has Velcro, so make sure to fasten it securely.
  9. This is where the obi comes in. Wrap the part that will be wrapped around the waist. If you loosen it at this stage, it will not be stable when you finally insert the decorative obi part, so make sure to fasten it firmly.
  10. Simply insert the metal fittings on the decorative part and tie it with string to complete.
